Planning Commission Recruitment

The City of College Place is accepting applications for a volunteer position on the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission is a recommending body and hears land use requests such as amendments to the comprehensive plan, amendments to title 15 through 18 of the College Place Municipal Code, and the rezoning of property.   

Applicants should be a resident of College Place and able to attend evening meetings.  Currently the Planning Commission meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. with occasional workshops and additional meetings as needed.

Those interested in applying to serve on the Planning Commission fill out the application located here.  Applications should be dropped off at the front desk at City Hall (625 S. College Ave) or emailed to Applications will be accepted until the position has been filled.

Civil Service Commission Recruitment

The City of College Place is currently requesting submissions from individuals interested in volunteering as a Civil Service Commissioner.  Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor, and must be residents of College Place for the past three years and be able to attend monthly meetings.  Please submit a resume and letter of interest to City Hall, 625 S College Avenue, College Place, WA.  Questions should be directed to Shawn Doering, HR Manager/Civil Service Secretary at  or 509-394-8508.  Position is open until filled.

Transportation Benefit District

In the coming weeks the City Council will be having discussions about creating a Transportation Benefit District to help fund the backlog of city streets in need of repair. A informational flier about this concept is located here.

IMPORTANT NOTE on Operation of Pedestrian Signals on College Avenue
It has come to our attention that many of us are not entirely clear on how the new HAWK (High intensity Activated crossWalK) pedestrian signals on College Avenue in front of the Walla Walla University campus work.  That's understandable as they are new to our valley and will take some getting used to.  Please note that it is only legal for pedestrians to cross when they have the pedestrian  “walk” or “crossing” signal ...which only shows when the overhead HAWK signals are either full or flashing red.  During this time pedestrians have the right-of-way and vehicles need to be stopped (or, if flashing, vehicles must first stop, but are OK to proceed if no pedestrians).  At all other times, vehicles have the right-of way and pedestrians entering the crosswalk are “jaywalking” and can be ticketed.  Please be sure to observe the will help keep pedestrians safe and traffic moving.  Please Click Here for Crosswalk Safety Public Safety Announcement by Walla Walla University Thank you!

Effective immediately all Police Department functions are located in The Annex building located immediately behind City Hall at 629 S. College Ave. The City Hall at 625 S. College Ave is now home to all Community Development functions including Planning, Engineering, Building, and Public Works.
