2010 Strategic Goals

Administration

• Encourage the public to participate in planning, advisory, event, and feedback activities.
• Establish a City web site that provides an effective platform to conduct business, enhance communication, and lower the cost of delivering services.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to eliminate inefficiencies and unnecessary redundancy in the delivery of public services.
• Work more closely with public and private stakeholders on planning issues to achieve mutual benefits.
• Develop succession plans for key personnel to ensure continuity of operations.
• Develop guidelines and implement practices for improving information sharing between the Council, standing committees, and staff.
• Encourage and develop a strong customer service ethic within the city.
• Promote and maintain a quality community environment through the consistent application of development standards.
• Increase awareness of training and professional development opportunities available to Council members.

Finance

• Establish reserve funds for essential services.
• Establish a life-cycle schedule and associated funds for the maintenance, improvement, addition, and replacement of essential facilities and equipment.
• Develop and implement a policy allowing the use of city assets for advertising.
• Seek public and private grant sources when appropriate.

Public Safety

• Assess public safety service expectations.

Building

• Create development standards for “green” building options.

Public Works

• Establish a life-cycle schedule and associated funds for the maintenance, improvement, addition, and replacement of essential city infrastructure.
• Acquire neighboring water districts when beneficial to the city.
• Acquire additional water rights when economically and environmentally feasible.
• Establish a schedule and associated funds for the maintenance, improvement, and addition of city parks.

Planning

• Designate land for a light industrial area within the city and work with the Port and other partners to promote associated business development.
• Establish a volunteer committee to create standards for the development and appearance of College Avenue.
• Actively solicit hospitality, restaurant, and professional service businesses.
• Develop a long range pedestrian mobility plan that includes consideration for non-motorized forms of transportation.
• Establish options for mixed use zoning.
• Establish a commercial district with direct and adjacent access to US 12.
