Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Wastewater Department has a mandate to protect the public health and the environment. To do this, the department is divided into the collections and treatment sections. Each section plays an important part in fulfilling our mission.

Collections Section

The collections section is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that transports the raw sewage to the treatment plant. The collections section’s job is to remove obstructions in the sewer lines, clean and inspect the sewer lines, clean and maintain the lift stations.
The collections section also cleans and maintains the storm drains as time permits.

Treatment Section

The treatment section is charged with converting raw sewage into disinfected water which meets the criteria set forth in the NPDES permit and class B biosolids. The processes to make these conversions possible is controlled and monitored by the treatment section. The treatment section maintains and repairs the plant equipment. Effluent quality is ensured by laboratory testing that is used to formulate the process control decisions. The treatment section also maintains the plant buildings and grounds.

How you can maintain a healthy sewer system.

Never pour grease or oil down a drain – put it in a container and place it in the trash. Do not flush materials such as disposable diapers, paper towels, etc. – only toilet paper and human waste should be flushed down the toilet. Never flush or pour chemicals such as paint, acids, gasoline or solvents into the system. Do not plant water seeking trees such as willows close to the sewer lines.

Storm water

The storm drainage system is maintained by the collections section of Environmental Systems. At the present time, many of the storm drains go directly to Garrison Creek and others go to dry wells or other in ground structures. To protect our environment it is illegal to dispose of oil, chemicals or other materials in a storm drain. When raking leaves, it is important to keep them out of the drainage ditch and away from the drain openings.
