Wastewater Treatment Staff

The wastewater department currently has six employees. All staff are certified in their fields of work. The staffing is: 1 Environmental Systems Director 1 Chief Operator 1 Laboratory Operator 2 Plant Operators 1 Maintenance Worker – Collections
Each employee has their own set of duties and responsibilities in the department.

The Environmental Systems Director is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater system. The ESD consults with the chief operator to set the treatment parameters for process control and general operation of the department. The ESD formulates the operating budget for the department. Employee performance evaluations are written by the Director. The ESD approves/recommends all department spending. The director reviews and signs off on the Discharge Monthly Report and prepares various other reports and documents for regulatory agencies. The ESD is a certified level 4 operator.

The chief operator is responsible for the day to day operation of the wastewater department. He assigns the daily work tasks and insures that the normal, routine tasks are performed. The chief operator is responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels in the treatment plant and collections divisions. The chief operator, in conjunction with the EDS, determines the operating parameters for the treatment process. He is to insure that the staff meet the training levels required by DOE for certification.

The Laboratory operator, as the name implies, performs the laboratory testing required to regulate the treatment process. He takes samples of the waste stream and tests them for differing constituents. The laboratory operator informs the chief operator and the EDS when the process parameters are not being met and recommends needed changes. He is responsible for supplying data for required reports and maintaining the laboratory equipment. The laboratory operator also works in the plant or collections divisions if needed. He trains the other operators in proper sampling and testing procedures.

The plant operators do just that – operate the treatment plant. They check the plant for proper operation of equipment and process. The operators maintain the equipment, grounds and buildings. They repair the equipment and build or fabricate items as needed. All operators are trained to fill in at the laboratory as needed. They are all capable of operating the vehicles and equipment needed at the treatment plant. The operators are all trained and experienced in the duties of the collections section.

The maintenance worker – collections is responsible for the maintenance and inspection of the entire collections system. He cleans the sewer lines to ensure the proper flow of raw wastewater to the treatment plant. The collections worker inspects the sewer lines with the television van to map areas in need of repair or replacement or identify blockages. He assists in the treatment plant as needed and is certified in collections. The plant operators help in the collections division when required.
